The club was founded on December 8, 1948. Its founders were: FirminoChagas de Faria, José Joaquim Pestanade Vasconcelos, José dos Santos Reynolds and Manuel Batista. The current president is called VitorMenezes.
The stadium was given the name José Lino PestanaStadium, José Lino Pestanawas a former dealer and club president. Passed away on the day February 7th, in Funchal, at the age of 84, the man who led the destinations of Clube da IlhaDouradafor 35 years.
It was declared a Public Utility on 11/25/1982 by the Regional Government of Madeira.
In the 2010-2011 season, the senior team participates in the 3rd National Division -Madeira Series.
